As a British family-owned business, our vision has always been to not only build our pianos in Britain but to source every component from within the country as well.
However, many of the essential parts needed to build a piano have not been manufactured in Britain for decades. Once home to a thriving piano industry, the landscape has shifted, with production moving overseas to the East and historic British factories repurposed for other trades.
While every Edelweiss piano is built in Britain, some components must be sourced from the East simply because no viable British manufacturers remain.
The S132 is our commitment to changing that. Determined to bring piano-making back to its roots, we set out on a mission: to source every key component of this instrument from within Britain—no matter what it takes.
Here’s what it took us to succeed in our mission.
With the scarcity of piano component manufacturers in the UK, we knew that achieving our vision would require more than just sourcing—it demanded a complete redesign. This meant reimagining not only the piano’s construction but also the entire build process from the ground up.
Leveraging of 50 years of expertise in piano restoration, we combined our deep understanding of traditional Piano craftsmanship with the insight of renowned piano designer Del Fandrich and together, we set out to create something truly exceptional.
With the opportunity to completely redesign the piano, our focus extended beyond its construction to refining its sound.
Since our expertise lies in crafting pianos specifically for the home environment, we set an additional goal: to create a piano that delivers a sound far larger than its size.
Smaller grand pianos often carry a stigma, as many manufacturers prioritize building impressive concert grands. However, when it comes to beautifully crafted, rich-sounding small grand pianos designed for homes, there are very few true specialists. That’s where we stand apart.
This redesign allowed us to push boundaries and engineer one of the best small grand pianos on the piano market.
By starting from the ground up, we integrated ground breaking innovations—never before seen in piano design—solely dedicated to enhancing its sound.
For us, creating a small piano with a rich, beautiful sound requires far greater expertise, skill, and understanding of piano craftsmanship than simply scaling down a larger design.
Many piano makers produce small grand pianos by simply shrinking a larger model. However, because these pianos were never designed to be compact, they often lose the depth, resonance, and tonal richness of their full-sized counterparts. The physics of a piano’s sound production cannot simply be downsized without consequence.
Mastering the art of preserving warmth, depth, and clarity in a more compact form requires deep technical knowledge and innovation—something we set out to perfect with the S132.
With 50 years of experience in piano restoration, we’ve spent the last 17 years crafting our own instruments.
This unique background gives us a distinct advantage—we’re not bound by centuries-old traditions, allowing us to innovate freely.
For the S132, we embraced the latest advancements in 21st-century technology—tools and processes that simply didn’t exist a century ago.
This approach not only enables us to build a superior piano but also enhances efficiency and precision at every stage of the process by merging 21st century technology with traditional piano building methods and processes.
